Research in the Ebro Delta - Biodiversity Day

About the activity

The Ebro Delta (320 km2) is one of the largest wetlands in Mediterranean Europe, and the most important in Catalonia. The arrival of the river Ebro in the Mediterranean results in a large amalgam of habitats (bays, estuaries, coastal lagoons, tusks, river, riparian forest, brackish, dune systems, beaches, etc.) and makes the area present a huge biodiversity . The importance of the Delta for bird migration and nesting is well known. However, the Ebro delta is home to much more biodiversity, although much less colorful and less mediated, such as microalgae, aquatic plants, macroinvertebrates, odonates, fish and bats.

The aim of this first day of research in the Ebro Delta is to share the knowledge of the studies and monitoring of biodiversity that different institutions in Catalonia have been carrying out for some time in the area in order to understand ' n the role that all these organisms play in the functioning of the different ecosystems. This research is key to developing holistic and sustainable monitoring plans and conservation measures in these severely vulnerable landscapes in the face of a climate emergency.

The day is designed in person, which as we all know facilitates much more interaction and discussion. However, for those who are unable to attend, you can follow the day online
