IRTA's Genetic Analysis Service offers the development and application of appropriate molecular markers, mainly SNPs and SSRs, in a wide selection of species to quickly and economically analyze plant samples in the field of varietal identification and of improvement.

IRTA in its Genomics and Biotechnology program participates in public research projects and improvement programs, both public and private, providing services to nurseries and legume companies.

Therefore, it combines fundamental and oriented research to know the variability of the genomes of cultivated plants and the inheritance of traits of agronomic interest, with the ultimate goal of applying this research to crop improvement.

Different genetic procedures can be used to select or improve plants and crops. Genotyping is becoming a powerful tool in plant breeding.
