Recovery of super-intensive olive plantations in arbequina hedge with low production

About the activity

The intensification of olive groves is a necessity in current olive farming systems, since greater productions are obtained with lower costs, by allowing the mechanization of cultivation. The super-intensive or hedge planting model emerged in the 90s, mainly as the Arbequina variety, very well adapted to this production system during the first years, but in mature plantations, it can present a drop in productivity.

On this day, the productive results of an experimental trial with the three main olive production systems will be presented: intensive, high density and superintensive or fenced and several fenced plantations of 'Arbequina' will be visited that have suffered a drop in production, analyzing the response to different reconversion strategies, with the aim of recovering productivity.
