The project PigStun* is aimed at encouraging EU pig slaughterhouses using high carbon dioxide concentration for stunning pigs to convert to more animal welfare friendly systems, by testing technical specifications and feasibility for four promising alternatives.
During this webinar, the following alternatives will be presented: Argon Retrofit system, Helium system, Optimised CAS process, Improved Electrical Stunning system. A description of the system will be provided, along with pro’s and con’s of these alternatives and their impact on economy, environment, labor, and animal welfare.

PigStun is the beneficiary of the grant agreement signed with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) under the “Single Market Programme – Food strand”, with the aim to improve pig welfare. The PigStun consortium composes beneficiaries and associated partners from The Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and Spain, including academic research partners, developers of slaughterhouse equipment and five pig slaughter companies.
