The microfluidic-based PCR system we present enables high data throughput with between 4000 to over 9000 individual reactions in nanoliter volumes in a single run, ensuring complete and highly cost-effective analysis of desired samples and assays with minimal user input.
With this approach, all the tools are provided, from reagents, state-of-the-art instruments, and automated analysis solutions along with technical and application support, for the perfect combination of high-content and high-throughput.
On May 9 at 10:30 am a webinar will be held organized by Izasa Scientific and BIOVEGEN, in collaboration with Semillas Fitó and IRTA, in order to present the most relevant aspects of this technology.
BDporc Capa Blanca newsletter
BDporc Iberian Newsletter
Platform BDporc
BDporc is a representative Service to pig companies Other services offered by BDporc: database and a digital platform at the service of the pig sector. It offers reference information and benchmarking to its member companies and recognizes the best farms in the annual edition of the Porc d’Or awards.
With a history of data dating back to the 1990s, the BDporc system currently manages the data of almost one million white and Iberian layer breeders, which represents almost 50% of the national census. In 2015 BDporc went international, also managing data from Portugal and Colombia, through agreements between IRTA and their respective national associations.
Table of innovation of the fattened calf: Fruits of joint work
After eight years at the fattening calf innovation table, we are especially excited to share the main results and conclusions with you all.
The innovation table is an annual meeting organized by the IRTA, where different figures from the beef cattle sector such as farmers, companies, cooperatives, the administration and researchers of the IRTA meet, and where the needs are presented of the sector, prioritizing them to later seek solutions through research.
This day is part of demonstration activities, operation 01.02.01 (technology transfer) of the PDR 2014-2020.
Advice on the genetic management and improvement of selection nuclei in pigs
The IRTA Animal Breeding and Genetics program offers advisory services in all the steps involved in the genetic management of pig populations subjected to both selection processes and protocols for the conservation and maintenance of genetic variability.
The incorporation of a genetic improvement advisory service within a pig production scheme implies incorporating into the company knowledge of the two fundamental disciplines on which any improvement program is based: population genetics and quantitative genetics. These two disciplines offer the theory and the tools to be able to rigorously and reasonedly maintain the balance between minimizing the increase in inbreeding within the selection or conservation program, and improving the average production of the populations with which one works. This last point would be the most relevant from the economic point of view for a company, which will aim to increase its production and profitability. Therefore, the establishment of a breeding program, based on selection and/or crossbreeding, will allow increasing the production and profitability of the populations with which it works, either directly or by adapting them to the peculiarities of the company.
46th Rabbit Symposium
The IRTA Genetics and Animal Improvement Program, and the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda (DACC) of the Generalitat de Catalunya collaborate with the Spanish Rabbit Association (ASESCU) in the organization of the 46 Rabbit Symposium to be held on 1 and 2 June 2022 in Pineda del Mar (Barcelona).
The symposium is held every year in different cities of the state and this time it will be held in Pineda del Mar, on the 1st and 2nd of June. The event is an opportunity to bring together producers, researchers and companies related to the rabbit sector. The conference will present various papers and scientific papers focused on topics that are considered of special relevance to the sector.
During the first day, Jose María Gil, from the Center for Research in Agri-Food Economics and Development (CREDA), will talk about trends in the meat products market and the implications it may have for the rabbit sector. On the other hand, Jordina Casas, from the Federation of Associations of Rabbit Farmers of Catalonia (FACC) will present the situation of rabbit farming in Catalonia. In the afternoon, there will be a round table in which several national and international researchers, the Interprofessional Organization of Rabbits (INTERCUN) and representatives of the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda (DACC) of the Generalitat de Catalunya, will discuss welfare. animal and the use of cages in the rabbit sector. On the second day of the conference, Fernando Estellés (Polytechnic University of Valencia) will present a paper on the environment and production of rabbit meat, and the Association of Veterinarians Specializing in Rabbit Farming (AVECU) will address the issue of changes in regulations on medication.
In addition to these guest presentations, we will also have, during the Symposium, free communication sessions where the advances in research done by different groups in the most relevant scientific disciplines for the sector, such as well-being, nutrition, genetics, will be presented. , animal management and health. You can find more information about the event at www.asescu.com.
Impact of genetics and nutrition on pig efficiency and sustainability
The pig production sector faces great challenges in relation to guaranteeing its economic, social and environmental sustainability, in all three aspects the efficiency of production guaranteeing the welfare of the animals is a key element, and in particular it is the efficiency with which feed is used on farms, as on the one hand, feed costs can reach 70% of total costs and its consumption is closely linked to emissions from the farm. The consideration of all these elements in current pig production, from the perspective of nutrition and genetic improvement, is a reality for the sector, and also for research projects of applied interest that are being developed both nationally and internationally. The proposed conference aims, on the one hand, to present research activities applied to the disciplines of nutrition and genetic improvement are being carried out by IRTA with the aim of increasing the sustainability of the pig sector; and on the other, to offer the practical vision of the implementation of some of these developments by companies in the sector.
