The IRTA aquaculture center is organizing an open day with guided tours of the facilities on the occasion of Aquaculture Day. IRTA researchers will give informative talks to bring people closer to the world of aquaculture and the research that IRTA does in this area.
The content of the day will address the production of bivalve molluscs, gastropods and echinoderms on the Catalan coast.
It will be presented how the Generalitat de Catalunya responds through the "Water Quality Monitoring Program in Seafood Production Zones" and its adaptation to the Catalan coast and the productive context of Catalonia will be described.
In this day, different speakers will present different innovations in the field of milk and cheese whey valorization, which have been developed both in Catalonia and internationally (the first talks will be in English). How to control milk processing with the application of light sensors, how to convert milk and whey into a powdered ingredient, using 30% less energy and investment costs, how to valorize whey proteins, or make new products, such as fermented beverages. Finally, a project that has developed cheese with a sausage format (fuet) will also be included.
Projects funded through Operation 16.01.01 (cooperation for innovation) of the RDP of Catalunya 2014-2022.

In recent years, the efforts of the scientific community to improve the intestinal health of domestic birds have increased exponentially.
Its implications on the health and welfare of animals, the improvement in productive efficiency, food safety and sustainability are of great relevance, so understanding and controlling the mechanisms involved in intestinal health are key to the future of the poultry production.
This seminar aims to focus on Necrotic Enteritis as one of the main intestinal pathologies in birds and to describe the nutritional strategies that are currently being followed to improve intestinal health.
It will also be exposed how the use of feed additives (probiotics) can improve animal health and performance from a scientific point of view and how the new technologies -omics ((meta-) genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) are already a turning point in research in animal nutrition and health.
The aim of this day is to transfer and share knowledge with the livestock and animal health sector, as well as with society in general, about the implications and challenges arising from the fact that Catalonia has recently become officially free of tuberculosis in the bovine species.
In particular, the actions carried out during the last decades to reach this milestone and the implications of the new status for herds will be reviewed. It will also describe the current situation of animal tuberculosis in Catalonia, the main risks we still face and the preventive and control measures that need to be maintained and strengthened.
The day is aimed at farmers of cattle and small ruminant farms, veterinarians and official veterinarians of sanitation and slaughterhouses, staff of game handling establishments and the hunting sector in general, animal health professionals and human and to all people interested in the situation and control of this disease in general
